About Golf Mental Training:
It's no secret amongst my golfing friends that last year I felt I had lost enjoyment of the game and hardly played at all which was somewhat of a surprise as I have been an avid golfer for over 12 years now.
I began playing golf in my early forties and for the first few years of my 'golfing life' I was intent on learning the basics and getting my handicap down as low as possible, I couldn't get enough of golf!
After 9 years, my handicap reached it's lowest point of 10.1. ( I'm NOT a pro golfer by the way, I'm a lady amateur, club golfer now in my mid 50s but I DO play a lot of amateur open competitons and play competitively in our golf club teams ) Previously to that, I had come down about 4 strokes a year, slowing down to 1 or 2 strokes a year for the last 4-5 years. Possibly, once I reached the point of being a 10 handicap, I think that's when my enjoyment started to change!
Were my expectations too high and therefore creating disappointment and frustration in my game? Possibly ! In fact, yes, probably!
I had become used to playing to my handicap and below, and winning competitions from time to time but playing to a 10 handicap was not easy for me and I often struggled to even play in my buffer zone.
As a qualified NLP practitioner and hypnotherapist, I have worked hard on my mental game over the years and understood clearly the relationship between the subconscious mind and the body when paying golf. I will point out too, that as well as not enjoying golf last year there were other family issues that took my focus off golf and I usually felt as though I wanted to be anywhere BUT on the golf course.
However, during last year I missed the cameraderie and team play that I was used to in my golf club and this year I want to begin enjoying golf again and I plan to work hard on my mental attitude to bring my enjoyment back into the game.
This is the purpose of this blog on golf mental training.
As a golfer and NLP practitioner I'm in a great position to review some of the many golf hypnosis downloads that are available and I enjoy doing this. Some of them are rubbish and won't get a mention at all but there are several that I have found helpful personally and I will add reviews to this site. Some of my golf hypnosis download reviews are on some of my other sites, for example:
Putt Like a Pro from Hypnosis Downloadsand 'Great Golf' from John Barrie
and I will be bringing them all onto this site as I work on my project. Oh yes, I mustn't forget the Glenn Harrold 'Play Great Golf' golf hypnosis CD's which were the first ones I used and reviewed and they continue to be one of my favourite golf hypnosis CD's.
However, there is one golf mental training programme that I've been planning on trying and reviewing for some time now and this is the one I will use on myself to bring back enjoyment and my enthusiasm for the game.
The mental golf training program is called 'Minding Your Game' by Wade Pearse, Canadian golfer and golf mental game coach.
I will be documenting my progress with this mental training course from the day I receive it and all the way through to the end of my 2010 golfing season. My review will be in the form of a blog so I can add short or long posts as the need arises from wherever I may be !
I hope this website and blog will be beneficial to anyone who wants to improve their golf game by working on the mental side of golf but at the very least, I plan on enjoying my golf this year, that's my positive thought and that's what WILL make it work. I WANT to enjoy playing golf again, therefore, I will find a way and it WILL happen.
And who knows, maybe my handicap will also start to come down a little from the 12.8 it has slowly crept up to! (I'm based in the UK and our handicaps are different to the US/Canadian system in that it goes up .1 each time you don't play within your buffer zone in a competition so I have slowly crept up to 12..8 from my lowest handicap of 10.1)

“Your physical game determines how high you’ll shoot, yet it’s your mental game that determines how low you’ll shoot” < My dad used to tell me this for as long as I can remember. It is nothing but the truth. Golf is game that is played between the ears.
