Today we played our 2nd round at Saunton Sands golf course. The weather was AMAZING! Just perfect for golf !

Short sleeve weather with just the tiniest of sea breezes and the views at this golf course are just gorgeous!

Anyway, I didn't start off very well, good drive, 2nd ( and 3rd ) into the nearest bumker, no score on that hole!

The next few holes were not much better and the old feelings of frustration and golfing misery were starting to re-appear!

I started working through the mental training that I've been working on in my golf mental programme and slowly, in my head, started to turn things around.

Now, who knows whether you feel better mentally because you start to play better golf, or you start to play better golf because you feel better mentally and I really believe it's the latter but slowly and surely, as my mental attitude improved, my golf game turned into that of another person.

I told myself that I was going to enjoy my game WHATEVER the score was and focussed SO hard on just hitting the ball in front of me and to be truthful, I played the best golf I've played in a long time and ended up with scoring 20 points on the back 9 !

My best score in forever and especially gratifying as it was on a course that was new to me. So together with my 'frustrated' front 9 score of 11 points I finished with a respectable total of 31 points so just dropping 5 points off my current handicap of 13 !

The mental golf game improvement is a slow, ongoing process but is most definitely working and I'm beginning to enjoy playing again.

More tomorrow when we play Ilfracombe Golf Course !

So, today was my first day back on my home course after spending the past month in the Middle East playing on a rock hard dry course. My home golf course is in the UK, just outside London and needless to say, quite a difference in conditions to the sun baked course, today the course was wet and soggy, it was also freezing cold but I had so many layers on I was immune to the cold.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I didn't enjoy playing golf last year, in fact, most of my rounds I wanted to be any where else but on a golf course.

This year, I WANT to play, and THAT is the difference. My golfing mindset is TOTAlly different! I missed playing with my team mates, our handicaps range between 10 and 14 and we're quite a competitive group.

My handicap is 13 at the moment, I used to be 10 but it has slowly crept up, ( see my handicap explanation here ).

I didn't start my round too well, but kept mentally VERY positive and kept patient.

Here's my score today, I'll use this as a benchmark for future rounds:

Par

4

4

4

3

4

3

5

Well, at least I kept below 100! My back 9 was MUCH better than my front round and I was striking the ball really well once I got used to the mud and slush on the course.

What was important today was that I kept postitive the whole time and I didn't let the bad shots 'get to me' I literally played just one shot at a time and didn't think backwards or forwards.

A good start to my year and most importantly I enjoyed the round.

Next step for me is to start listening to the golf mental training downloads from the training course.

More on that next...................

Things are going very well with my golf rehabilitation although the weather here in the UK has been rubbish and the courses are really a bit too wet to enjoy playing golf.

However, I've been working hard too with my golf lessons and going to the driving range regularly and I'm really beginning to feel a difference in the physical side of my golf game.

My golf pro has made quite a few changes to my swing, previously I was not turning my shoulders enough and therefore my swing had become a little bit wild and two 'army'.

Now we're focusing on using the body more to get more power back into my swing and to get the distance back which I had lost through not turning my body correctly. He introduced a really good training aid called 'Tour Sticks' which I'm finding very helpful. Basically, they are just fluorescent sticks about 3 feet long and you placed them on the ground to help with alignment issues. I take them down to the range with me and they are helping a lot.

I had a miserable round of golf the other day, in our 1st competition of the year, I managed 23 stableford points over 18 holes, quite pathetic really, BUT, what was impressive is that I kept my cool the whole way round and still managed to come off the course with a positive mind whereas last year I would have wanted to jump off a cliff.

To be fair to myself, I am taking lessons at the moment and my pro had changed my grip to make it stronger and we discovered that I haven't been turning my body for the back swing, so there were quite a few swing changes interfering with my game that day PLUS the fact that there was a magnet in the bottom of each hole that was the opposite polarity to my ball !

When I was playing my best golf a year or so ago, I wasn't 'thinking', just seeing the flight and where I wanted it to land,so, just too many swing thoughts that day.

I'm working regularly with the golf audio sessions that are included in the golf medal training programme and the more I listen to them the more I find that some little snippet will appear in my mind out of nowhere which is a good proof that the program is working for me. In fact, the more I listen to thr golf mental training aidio sessions and follow the mental training programme, the more fascinating I find it to listen to the way my playing partners talk themselves out of a good round of golf. Hilarious really when you know what you are looking for! If they only knew!!

The more I research golf mental training, the more I see that 't's quite an untapped market and I realise how FEW people actually seriously bring mental training into their game. I'm more than happy to write about the training program and my progress here on my website, but I've no intention of sharing it with anyone that I might be playing against in the near future ! I want to keep my mental edeg to myself!

The creator of the mental training program that I use Wade Pearse, is about to launch a very exciting new concept in the field of golf audio sessions and golf hypnosis downloads. His new site is not launched yet but I have been able to test out the new equipment and I'm in the process of writing a thorough review for my website

The concept behind it is quite new and VERY exciting.

As you can see from the photo, the 'sound and light machine’ is a type of iPod that plays the golf audio sessions and you wear glasses that flash a mixture of cool blue flashes to your closed eye lids.

The concept is simple, but innovative!

The sound & light machines use blue L.E.D.s (Light Emitting Diodes) and binaural beats (sounds) that pulse at specified frequencies.

MUCH more on this project later when I’ve worked on my reviews some more! It's REALLY worth waiting for and I feel it's one more trick up my sleeve when I play in competitions!

If you’re in a hurry and would like to know more about the sound & light machines and how they work, lease a message on the bottom of this page with your email and I’ll send you some more info.

The first listening of Wade Pearse’s SECOND Audio Coaching Session:

After listening to Wade Pearse's FIRST audio coaching session a few days ago, I played golf at the weekend and REALLY noticed a difference ALREADY in the way I thought about my golf game. For example, I had a run of three holes with unlucky breaks, the 5th, 6th and 7th holes, whereas before, I would have been mumbling things like " Oh yeah, just MY luck, I end up in a divot" or " I just hit THREE great shots in a row and LOOK where the stupid ball has ended up" like I was the only one it ever happened to. ( By the way, have you ever noticed that when you're not having a great game, you only ever notice the bad breaks? Wierd isn't it because I'm sure that if you actually recorded the number of bad breaks and the number of good breaks that they would more than likely even themselves up over time ! )

You know what it's like don't you, you get a run where just about everything goes wrong and then your game goes from bad to worse. So, instead of getting all 'het up' and down in the dumps, I followed the breathing instructions from the first golf mental game audio session and kept myself nice and calm. The great thing was on the 9th hole I had a GREAT birdie on a par 4 that got me right back on track and I went into the 1/2 way house for my bacon 'buttie' all happy and upbeat.

The back 9 was better than the front and I kept on an even keel the whole way through.

I listened to Wade's SECOND audio session earlier this evening and I pleased to see that he builds further and works on developing a winner's mindset, this golf mental game training audio session is called " Building A Winner's Mindset".

Here's my review of " Building A Winner's Mindset".:

The main topic of this audio session is to work on developing a permanent winner's mindset which carries on considerably from what I have written earlier on this post.

That when a ball has a bad lie, or lands in a divot, that you should walk to the ball with no different a mind set than if it were in a great place and to see each ball as a new challenge both for the physical result and for developing your mental strength. This is all part of learning to play golf under pressure as calmly as you do when playing a casual round with friends.

The overall mantra of this session is that 'Winners NEVER quit' and also in reverse, that 'Quitters never win'!

But it's not the overall concept of quitting, it's the point of not quitting in a lot of small ways before the 'big' quit. You will keep a mental edge over any opponent if you can keep the same mindset all the way through your round whatever the score happens to be or whatever miserable lie the ball ends up in. AND, that will REALLY freak your opponent out!

Your mind set predetermines the physiological state you are in and by constantly given yourself strong mental signals of a positive nature, your physiological changes will match your mental attitude.

The bottom line is, wherever the ball happens to be, that's your next, fresh challenge and each shot should be approached separately, NOT part of the ball you hit before and DEFINITELY not a part of mentally working out what score you would get if you can par this hole, and par the next hole, etc etc.

See the ball, hit it, and move on to the next shot. And that's all. Simple really.

Are you still going to get beaten even when you play better than your opponent ? Yes of course, sometimes. That's part of the game, just as getting bad breaks are part of the game, you will always get bad breaks from time to time, the difference is, what do you DO when you get those bad breaks?

Do you whinge and complain that the golf Gods are against you? and only you? Or do you just get on with it and deal with it!

THAT's going to be the edge you will get by following such a strong golf mental game training program as this, you will learn how to manage your mindset and as you do this, you will notice the mind set of your opponent, who will probably be doing just the same thing as you USED to do and as soon as you see that, you KNOW you are on the right track, you are starting to make those mental changes and give yourself the mindset of a winner.

You CAN'T change a bad break, it's already happened, but you CAN change the way you deal with it and therefore change the future of your round.

You only have to try this once in your next round to understand the power of this training and when you realise this, you will get MORE of what you focus on.

Turn that bad break into a good one for the next ball and you will have won that small game for yourself , and then the next one and the next one until suddenly, there it is, you HAVE a winner's mindset and you have it NOW, not sometime in the future, it's THAT fast a change that you can make for yourself and it's a natural way to be.

Golf Mental Game Training

The more I listen to Wade's teaching the more it makes sense to me and the more I'm looking forward to going out on the course and dealing with all these little challenges and as I mentioned in my story about WHY I'm working my way through this course so thoroughly, if I can come off the course with a positive experience rather than a miserable feeling as I was getting last year, then I'm already a winner.

I will OWN a winner's mindset and its MINE to keep and not only for the game of golf.

Wade speaks well and explains things clearly , building a winner's mindset will give you an unshakeable confidence that is noticable to an opponent and usually quite hard to deal with for them.

If you think about it in reverse, once you see your opponent is starting to get rattled, you KNOW the advantage is yours so, if they see that you are coping with everything that gets thrown at you they will very often start to weaken and crumble.

The 2nd half of the golf mental game training audio session part 2 is the best bit, where Wade's voice will take you through the breathing exercises and deep into a wonderful, calming trance like peace where thoughts and ideas will be suggestedand taken onboard by your subconscious mind.

PERFECT!!

That's it for this part of the review, the next one will be for the video golf mental game coaching sessions of which there are two and also a bonus video with kettleball exercises to strengthen your golfing core.

Watch out for my reviews, there's a LOT of sections to this training course and I want to cover them all in depth!!

Here are some of my questions, please feel free to post your own answers if you want:

1. As a very competitive person, the feelings of misery and frustration after losing a match can be crushing.

How do sports people deal with those feelings ?

At one point I used to feel SO bad after a loss that I would tell myself that it didn't really matter if I won or lost ( it's just a game, right ? ) and even to the point that I would mentally start preparing myself for a loss BEFORE the end of the match and that CAN'T be right!

You are welcome to leave your thoughts and answers in the box below:

Today's round was a practise round with 3 of the ladies in my club team. My partner and I played a better ball match play competition against 2 ladies who play off 10 and are currently playing EXTREMELY well.

I wanted to use the match to let the golf mental tips and thoughts from Wade Pearse's Golf Mental Game Training Program sink in deeply.

I have to say, the whole mental game during this round was a revelation for me, I have NEVER been so calm and in control and ALL the way through, I was drumming the lesson deeper and deeper into my game process.

To cut a long story short, my partner and I ( both playing off 13) beat the two 10 handicap ladies 2 up.

The match was VERY close and as you can see from the score card above, the closer the match got, the calmer and more mentally in control I became, my back 9 was 4 over par which is the best I have played in a LONG time.

SO much of Wade's teaching came into my game today, each hole was a 'small victory', especially when I played well to win the hole, I would treat that hole as a 'small victory' but be ready to start the next hole afresh, instead of, in the past, worrying whether " I could keep it going until the end of the match'.

The whole mental golf training process was VERY easy to integrate into my game, even though I've been a big advocate of golf mental training in the past, NOTHING I've done before even comes close to the effects this course is having on my golf mental frame of mind. Remember also, that up to now, I've only studied the 2 eBooks and listened to the golf audio sessions, I haven't looked at the videos or the other eBooks.

I'm VERY encouraged by the course so far and it's really brought enjoyment back into my golf game already and that is my main aim. One side effect of playing so well yesterday is that I've been asked to play for the team tomorrow in the first round of this year's competition, that's a bonus, and I'm looking forward to playing my match tomorrow.

One thing that REALLY stood out during recent rounds is that I notice how much some of the golfers I'm playing with talk themselves out of the game, I'm noticing the self-talk and body language of other people now and it's fascinating. I'm keeping really quiet about the fact that I'm taking this golf mental game course training because I don't want anything to distract me from the things I'm learning.

One other comment that popped in to my mind a LOT yesterday was that Wade would always choose a golfer who had the strongest mental game over one who hit the best shots but didn't handle the mental aspects well and the fact that although Wade is not the best golfer out there, he KNOWS that he is rock solid mentally and THAT is how he wins matches.

So, this summer, that is my aim, to have a ROCK SOLID golf mental game ! I may not always hit great shots, but the mental game will be secure.

In fact, I did receive a few positive comments yesterday from my opponenets who mentioned the fact that I was very calm and steady all the way through, I just smiled to myself. Yup, that's me, I want to be known as the one with the rock solid mental game ! It is SO hard to play against someone who who KNOW will only get better as the natch progresses !

Check back and I'll post my progress of my singles match here!

The thought I will leave myself with today, is that, whatever the physical state on my golf game, I can have a strong MENTAL golf game NOW!

Not after a few more lessons or a few more sessions on the range , but NOW!

The first listening of Wade Pearse's Audio Coaching Session:

Before I started working with Wade Pearse's Golf Mental Training Course, I was looking for a way to bring enjoyment back into my golf game, you can read my story here, I won't repeat it here as I want to get on with my review of this course.

My thoughts towards golf last year were negative and quite honestly miserable and joyless. Playing golf had become a boring chore and as much as I enjoyed the company of my club teammates and playing partners, I had no enjoyment for the game at all. The less I wanted to play, the less I practised, and of course, the worse my game became and the cycle of misery continued for the whole of the year.

At the beginning of this year however, I decided that I've put so much time and effort into my golf game over the past 12 years that I want to get back to playing golf and decided to do something about it.

I've reviewed lots of golf hypnosis downloads and a lot of them are really good as you will see from the reviews on this site.

However, I need more than individual golf hypnosis downloads to bring about the shift in my mentality I'm looking for.

I've known about Wade Pearse's Golf Mental Game Training Program for quite some time and I've always liked the concept of having a whole course based around improving your mental attitude and mental strengths so I've chosen Wade's course to bring about my rehab.

As Wade says in his course material:"Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutely nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!"

For me, the most important step has already been taken, I've made the decision that I WANT to do something about my attitude and I am GOING to get back my enjoyment of the game, so, THIS is where I'm at.

GOLF MENTAL TRAINING COURSE

Now, after my first listening of the first part of the audio coaching session called " Awakening Your Golf Mind" I know I've made the right decision to follow this course.

My Review of the first part of the audio coaching session called " Awakening Your Golf Mind":

Firstly, I have to say that the sound of the voice on any audio training session is SO important for the overall enjoyment and effectiveness of the session , it's no good if the speaker has an accent that you can't understand, or the timbre of the voice grates on the nerves, or it's too high or too low, Wade's voice passes that test with flying colours, he has a deep, soft relaxing voice with an 'easy on the ears' slight Canadian accent that enters the subconscious mind very easily and gently.

( If there are any ladies reading this by the way, you will like Wade's voice, GUARANTEED! ! ) Anyway, I digress !

The subject of this audio session is to create the right frame of mind to enjoy playing golf and to play successfully, that the aim of playing is NOT about ONLY the score, but about getting into a comfortable and relaxed state of mind so that you play at your optimum mental levels and that way, everything else , scores, results etc, will happen naturally.

He takes you through a short breathing exercise before leading you into a deeply relaxed state and talks about how to sustain the feeling of comfort and relaxation throughout your game, ( getting into and staying in the zone, as the old cliche goes ).

He encourages you to bring to mind how it felt when you were playing golf really well, and to visualise the scene around you, the colours, the sounds, the feelings you had, the confidence you felt ( all successful NLP techniques of course) . The more you listen to this audio session, the easier it becomes to utilise the techniques on the golf course. To me, if I can come off the course feeling content and happy with my game, whatever the result, it's worth it's weight in gold!

Watch out for my review of the 2nd audio session for Wade Pearse's Golf Mental Game Coaching Program, I'm looking forward to it!

Well, time has gone by since my last Golf Rehab post!

To cut a long story short, at this moment, I was supposed to be on holiday in the Caribbean, however, thanks to the wonderful Icelandic volcano all that went by the board and we're now holiday in Devon, a place I have never been to before, it is BEAUTIFUL and the weather is on our side. We have 10 days here and will probably play golf at least 7 times, something I would not have wanted to do last year but since my golf mental outlook has completetly changed, I'm looking forward to each round.

So, since my last post: I'm back having regilar lessons with my favourite golf pro, I REalLY like him, I've been with him for over 2 years, not on a regular basis I might ad, I'm just a club golfer, not about to turn pro or anything but every time I have a lesson with him, I come out feeling encouraged and positive. We've changed a few minor things with my swing and at the moment, I'm hitting the ball MUCH better tha I have for a long time. So, the physical side, I can work on and improve on in time.

However, how is my mental side of golf going?

Actually, I can report that it is going REALLY well. Thanks to the golf mind training course I'm taking, my attitude to golf has changed dramatically ! I can deal with frustarrtion a lot better and look on each potentail 'disaster' now as a challenge as to how I can deal with that one particular shot.

Yesterday we played a course next to our hotel called Saunton Sands, we started playing at 3pm afetr a 4 hour drive from London to Devon and although it was quite warm when we started, by the time we finished at 7pm, we were FREEZING.

I had a good front 9, but after 12 holes, I was so cold and tired that I stopped enjoying playing. My stableford score was miserable, 10 points on the front and 9 on the back although I was hitting the ball really well but it’s a links course and the greens were Really fast.

We're playing it again today and after a good nigts sleep, my hopes are high that I will score more points today.

I'll write later with news!

Not that great a score today, 19 over par and 6 over my handicap.

Probably because the course was still quite soggy and the greens were lumpy.

I hit the ball well and tried to keep calm and positive when things got a bit wobbly. Wade's breathing techniques came in handy when I had a string of 3 silly holes in a row, on the 5th, 6th and 7th and I got a great birdie on the par 4 9th hole.

The best thing was that I came off the course happy and positive and enjoyed the round, so that's a great result in itself.

I'm about to listen to the 2nd audio coaching session from the course I'm following, Golf Mental Game Training, watch out for my review to follow shortly!
